Carden turns 6!

My Little Guy Turns SIX!!!

(where does the time go?)
Carden woke up on Tuesday to find his first birthday present sitting on his desk.
His very own fire belly toad which he named MAX!
(he had a little lizard that he caught months ago named sticky but we lost him a few weeks ago)
We decided that toads can't scurry as quickly as lizards so we have a better chance of catching him if he tries to get away.

At Carden's school they let you bring cupcakes in for the birthday kid. Carden couldn't contain his excitement when Ali and I showed up with the cupcakes.
He was one happy boy!
Look at that cute smile!
Grandma and Grandpa Woodall sent Carden a present and we received it about 4 days before his birthday. It was torture on the poor kid to see the package everyday and not be able to open it. Finally the day had come and he was bursting with anticipation.
This video is for you Grandma and Grandpa Woodall.
(I accidentally stopped recording on the first one, so watch both)

As you can see from these pictures, Carden loved everything about his day. He is the happiest kid anyway but I just loved seeing his enthusiasm come bubbling out.
I love the saying Daddy's Girl but don't love so much Mama's boy so I am going to call him My Little Guy and I couldn't be more grateful for him in our family. He still loves to cuddle up to me on the couch, defends me when Dad's wrestling gets a little crazy, and brings me flowers everyday.(seriously, he picks wild flowers everyday and brings them home with a huge smile)
I just love this kid!
Happy Birthday Buddy!

Girls Weekend

Finally, a Girls Weekend!
I have been here almost two years and I still haven't had a decent Girls Night Out!
Seriously, I am over due and my dear friends from Utah came and saved me!
We had so much fun, eating, shopping, talking, sleeping!!, and being pampered to by my cute husband who fixed us breakfast every morning.(not to mention took the kids the entire time so I could run around like a motherless crazy woman!)
Thanks Gals, I loved every minute of it and think that it should become a yearly tradition!

GO BLUE!! :)

If it would have been a plant, I'd have killed it!

I "killed" my Amish bread. Have you ever been given the starter bread in the Ziploc bags? I just got one from a friend and was excited to make it.
I was given it the Sat. before school started.
Day one: Mush bag Easy, Done!
Day two: Mush bag Sweet, I can do this!
Day three: (first day of school) making dinner when I see the bag staring at me, calling out Mush me! Hey Ali, come squish this bag for a minute. She loved it.
Day four: 9:00p.m. Just remembered the bread. Where's my paper with what to do? Scroll down days, OK, mush, mush, mush, Yes! I just have to mush again. I mush and done!
Day five: Has anyone seen the paper with the bread instructions on it? Oh well, we will skip today.
Day six: Search the kitchen for the list. . . Screw it. In the garbage it goes with the reminder that was written on the bottom of the list, "Only the Amish know how to start the bread so keep it going" swirling in my head.
Day seven: Guess what? Found the list!

Note to self. Don't take on Amish bread or living plants the first week of school. (or maybe ever)

Homework Tally, Me tons, Kids none!

Back to school is exhausting for all involved. I believe I have developed Carpal Tunnel from the endless forms I have to fill out.
I have been filling out forms since back to school night last weekend. We went to Back to School night last week and were so excited to meet the kid’s teachers and see where their rooms were.

Here is a little run down of how the night went.
6pm show up to school grateful we found a parking spot near it. ( we have over 920 students this year at the elementary and its only K-5)
6:05 - walk up to school only to notice the line to get in is now spilling out the door and down the sidewalk.
6:20 still waiting in line, coveting any shade we can. (it was in the high 90's that night)
6:30 - finally make our way into the building only to make our way back out of the building to Haylie's class. She is in the portables outside.
6:35 - Meet Haylie's teacher and before we knew it, there Jon and I are splitting the paperwork up between us to try and get through it as quickly as possible (only to find out that we had to repeat the whole process with Carden's class)
We ending up leaving about 7:45pm that night.

I hope the kids had fun because I felt like I was back in school trying to finish my work as quickly as possible so I could do something fun.
We survived and the kids still seemed excited to start school.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
Sadie –
Sadie is now a big 6th grader which here means she is off to middle school. We went earlier this month and got her schedule and locker. It was surreal walking around this huge school with my little girl. She was amazing. She has way more confidence than I did at that age. She is taking the bus this year and even wanted to ride it the first day. I told her I would drive her and she said, "I've got to ride it anyway, so I might as well do it on the first day. " She gets picked up at 6:54a.m. down the street from us. She gets herself up and ready. I am so lucky to have such an independent gal. She just does it. I walk her out to the corner every morning. I still can't believe my baby girl is going to middle school.

HayBay -
Haylie is in 3rd grade this year. She is now of age for the dreaded TAKS tests. She doesn't seem to mind at all and is even looking forward to it. We were hoping that she would get one of the girls from the neighborhood in her class this year but to no avail. We thought maybe she had when she checked the class list and did a "YES!" with a double fisted motion. Nope, it was over Alex, a kid she had in her class last year.(Haylie had a slight crush on him last year, maybe still does) Not much has changed with our little HayBay. Haylie has already made some new friends and is still as social as always. We didn't even get a chance to walk her to her class on the first day because she hooked up with a little friend and off they went.

Carden -
This was the hardest of them all. I cannot believe that my little guy is off to Kindergarten. (they go all day here) He is such a great kid that I wasn't anxious to push him out the door.
He was so excited to start school. He counted down the whole week before. The first day they had all the kinder parents meet in the library. It was total craziness. Imagine 8 kindergarten classes with an average of 22 kids each, add teacher and parents with younger siblings and you get the idea. We were lucky we found his teacher pretty quickly. She signed us in and then we just waited until they were ready. I was handling myself pretty well until his teacher handed me a note that had the sweetest poem written inside. I made it about two lines and the tears started. I knelt down and kissed him on the cheek and then told him I loved him. He started wiping off my kiss and I said, "Are you wiping my kisses off?" He said," No, I am rubbing it in." Doesn't that just melt your heart. They started off to class and he waved goodbye and has done amazing ever sense.

This is Carden and his best buddy Caleb!
So it's just me and Ali now. I have to admit I do love the one on one I get with her.

MY NEW BABY NEPHEW!

Marin had her little guy this morning at 9:49a.m. Seattle time.
They named him Collin Aroet McDonnel! He is adorable. Wish I was there in person but we will bide our time till we all meet up in Utah. These cute pictures will have to do for now!
(He is currently in NICU because he had a spontaneous pnuemothorax (a little air leaked out of his lung into his chest)They are hopeful that he will be out tomorrow!

Ok, so it took a move to Texas to make me become a blogger. I have to explain my name choice for my blog. The North Star!
I taught in primary quite a few years ago and loved it. I loved singing all those primary songs and the kids are just adorable. One song, however has remained with me over the years. There is a song written about President Hinckley when he was a boy. It talks about how in the summer, he and his brother would sleep out in an old wagon at night. They would name the constellations and President Hinckley would always find the big dipper and follow it till he found the North Star. He said he loved watching the night sky move. The stars would all change except for the North Star which was constant. I love that!
With this move to Texas, we are so grateful for the constants in our lives.
I feel blessed to know that wherever we go and however many things change around us we have constants in our lives that we can anchor ourselves to.
So this blog name is a thank you to all the constants in my life.
The gospel, my awesome husband and kids, my family, and my dear friends. Thank you for always being there!
Could I be more sappy.
So on that note, Here is my blog!!
