Back to school is exhausting for all involved. I believe I have developed Carpal Tunnel from the endless forms I have to fill out.
I have been filling out forms since back to school night last weekend. We went to Back to School night last week and were so excited to meet the kid’s teachers and see where their rooms were.
Here is a little run down of how the night went.
6pm show up to school grateful we found a parking spot near it. ( we have over 920 students this year at the elementary and its only K-5)
6:05 - walk up to school only to notice the line to get in is now spilling out the door and down the sidewalk.
6:20 still waiting in line, coveting any shade we can. (it was in the high 90's that night)
6:30 - finally make our way into the building only to make our way back out of the building to Haylie's class. She is in the portables outside.
6:35 - Meet Haylie's teacher and before we knew it, there Jon and I are splitting the paperwork up between us to try and get through it as quickly as possible (only to find out that we had to repeat the whole process with Carden's class)
We ending up leaving about 7:45pm that night.
I hope the kids had fun because I felt like I was back in school trying to finish my work as quickly as possible so I could do something fun.
We survived and the kids still seemed excited to start school.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
Sadie –
Sadie is now a big 6th grader which here means she is off to middle school. We went earlier this month and got her schedule and locker. It was surreal walking around this huge school with my little girl. She was amazing. She has way more confidence than I did at that age. She is taking the bus this year and even wanted to ride it the first day. I told her I would drive her and she said, "I've got to ride it anyway, so I might as well do it on the first day. " She gets picked up at 6:54a.m. down the street from us. She gets herself up and ready. I am so lucky to have such an independent gal. She just does it. I walk her out to the corner every morning. I still can't believe my baby girl is going to middle school.

HayBay -
Haylie is in 3rd grade this year. She is now of age for the dreaded TAKS tests. She doesn't seem to mind at all and is even looking forward to it. We were hoping that she would get one of the girls from the neighborhood in her class this year but to no avail. We thought maybe she had when she checked the class list and did a "YES!" with a double fisted motion. Nope, it was over Alex, a kid she had in her class last year.(Haylie had a slight crush on him last year, maybe still does) Not much has changed with our little HayBay. Haylie has already made some new friends and is still as social as always. We didn't even get a chance to walk her to her class on the first day because she hooked up with a little friend and off they went.

Carden -
This was the hardest of them all. I cannot believe that my little guy is off to Kindergarten. (they go all day here) He is such a great kid that I wasn't anxious to push him out the door.
He was so excited to start school. He counted down the whole week before. The first day they had all the kinder parents meet in the library. It was total craziness. Imagine 8 kindergarten classes with an average of 22 kids each, add teacher and parents with younger siblings and you get the idea. We were lucky we found his teacher pretty quickly. She signed us in and then we just waited until they were ready. I was handling myself pretty well until his teacher handed me a note that had the sweetest poem written inside. I made it about two lines and the tears started. I knelt down and kissed him on the cheek and then told him I loved him. He started wiping off my kiss and I said, "Are you wiping my kisses off?" He said," No, I am rubbing it in." Doesn't that just melt your heart. They started off to class and he waved goodbye and has done amazing ever sense.

This is Carden and his best buddy Caleb!
So it's just me and Ali now. I have to admit I do love the one on one I get with her.
